Jane Hansford

Jane’s work displays a strong painterly quality, underpinned by observational skills, drawing and a highly fertile imagination. Her paintings often centre around the development of characters, weaving together elements of eroticism, dark humour and sharp observation. To this are added dramatic scenes with historical sources. There are frequent references to fashion, costume, photography. Japanese art and its floating landscapes, exploring colour, nature and space are also an influence.

Recent work echoes epic scenes of myth and melodrama throughout art history, which she interprets into imaginary characters that inhabit the past and the present.

Jane graduated in 2008 with a First Class BA Honours degree in Fine Art from Buckinghamshire & Chilterns University College, tutored by Nick Bodimeade. After graduation, she met with immediate success, and is collected throughout the UK and Europe.
